It’s Time to Show Them: Planning Large-Format Print

Large-format print gives a campaign a physical presence: a banner outside a shop, a visual at an exhibition or a graphic inside a retail space. Its usefulness depends on the setting, message and specification, rather than size alone.

Start with the location and purpose

Decide where the print will be installed, how far away it will be viewed and how long the campaign will run. An indoor display and an exposed outdoor banner have different requirements. Describe the surface or display system and any limitations at the site before choosing the format.

Choose the material and fixing together

A banner, textile graphic and adhesive film are not interchangeable. Match the material to its application and agree the finishing and mounting arrangement. Eyelets, pockets and frame-compatible edges serve different fixing methods. Check the selected configuration rather than assuming that a print will fit existing hardware.

Weather exposure, cleaning, storage and handling can affect service life. If a venue requires a particular fire-performance classification, request documentation for the specific material and configuration. Do not assume that every large-format print is waterproof, fire resistant or suitable for repeated outdoor use.

Prepare artwork for production

Screen previews alone are not a dependable colour reference. Follow our print-file requirements and the selected template, including guidance on colour, image quality, bleed and safe areas. Agree any critical colour references and proofing requirements before approval.

Plan a coordinated campaign

Use the same main visual across placements while adjusting the layout for each size. For resellers, print shops and multi-site campaigns, specify quantities by design, packing instructions and delivery allocation. Confirm the required delivery date with the project team rather than treating a general article as a turnaround promise.

Compare large-format advertising and exhibition systems, then send Nordsign your project brief with dimensions, placement and finishing requirements.
